Road Trip to Carmel: The Beach

20130331-152808.jpg
I’m walking in the sand and the ocean is amazing! People are flying kites and there is a wind-surfer bouncing over the waves, his colorful kite in the air. Thanks for joining me on this adventure! I hope you had a fabulous Sunday too. Cheers!

Road Trip to Carmel: The Secret Forest

20130331-144000.jpg
I’ve lived in Northern California for awhile and visit Carmel often. But even so, I’d never heard of the Secret Forest which I discovered today. It’s a little hard to find so I’ve added a map at the end. A secret that local residents have long withheld from visitors is Mission Trails Park. No signs will direct you here, but it’s worth the effort to find. Within this forest are miles of walking trails that are all dog friendly. They wind across foot-bridges, through red-wood groves and meadows filled with wild flowers. I did a short hike today but will be back. I’ve heard there are ocean vistas and deer grazing the hillsides.

Road Trip to Carmel: The Town

20130331-134620.jpg
I’m here and the town is full of people! There are a few shops closed because its Easter but all in all most are open. I’m sipping a coffee while writing this. Here are some pics from my stroll around town. Next I’m going to look for the Secret Forest which I just read about.

Road Trip to Carmel: Marina State Beach

20130331-113149.jpg

If you’re just joining me, I’m posting live as I drive from Los Gatos, California to the beautiful city of Carmel. It’s Sunday at 11:30 and I’m parked at Marina State Beach watching the surfers walk across the sand. First, it’s packed and I’m sort of illegally parked to write this post. Second, I’m starving and we (you and me) are eating in Carmel so we are off!

Road Trip to Carmel: Stop for Fresh Seafood

20130331-104909.jpg

Phil’s Fish Market is one of the BEST seafood restaurants/ markets in Northern California. It’s not easy to find and yet it’s packed day. I’ll add a map at the end so you can see how to get there. You can order seafood to go, or sit at the bar and watch the oysters being shucked. There are tables in the main area or you can sit outside and listen to the ocean. The food in the pics below are not what I ate. We are eating in Carmel so two nice people let me take pictures of their lunch πŸ˜‰

Road Trip to Carmel-Fab Farmers Mkt!

20130331-100728.jpg
When you’re in Moss Landing and right on highway 1 you’ll find the BEST farmers market. The Whole Enchilada Market Place. Picked from the fields that morning: sun warmed strawberries, artichokes the size of your head, asparagus, blood oranges, avocado a and grapes the size of a plum. The prices are very inexpensive. I got asparagus and eggplant to grill and a ton of veggies for my NutriBullet green drinks. Next, the seafood market. I’m hoping they are open!
