Road Trip to Carmel: Lunch!

I usually try to eat healthy but since I did have a Nutibullet V8 this morning (spinach, carrots, parsley, tomatoes, cucumber, lemon, avocado and tabasco) I’m going to live it up and try something new. I’m at The Forge restaurant in Carmel, California. I arrived early and got my favorite table by the outdoor fireplace.

I ordered the steamers and they were divine. You’ll want a spoon so you can scrape the bottom of the bowl after you run out of garlic bread.

I also ordered the pastrami egg rolls. My waitress said they were amazing! Well, they are good but they are really flirting with cholesterol levels that could make someone like me feel the need to fast for a week. I’d say pass on those but for sure, order the steamers.

Nor-Cal Day Trip – Seafood & Farmers Market Adventure

Here’s a fabulous place for lunch and local farmers market if you’re looking for a day trip in Northern California.  From Santa Cruz, take Highway 1 south. As you weave your way along you’ll run into the town of Moss Landing. I know I’ve mentioned this place before but wanted to give you a few more details.  The first place you’ll want to stop is The Whole Enchilada Farmers Market which is on Highway 1.  Everything is locally grown and the prices are very inexpensive.  They also have some exotic fruits and vegetables which are hard to find. From there head over to a recent find of mine called Phil’s Fish Market. I guess most people know about this place (As I’ve noted by the looks of shock when tell people about it – “What? You’ve never been? Are you completely mad? I’ve been eating there for years!”) Anyway, once I found it, I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s super casual so dining alone is no problem.  Be sure to get there early because it’s always packed. When it’s warm you can sit outside and enjoy an ocean view. After lunch the options are endless!  Monterey! Carmel! Let me know if you go and if you have a favorite item that you order, I’d love to share that too.

The blue dot shows where the farmer’s market is. You can also see the call out for Phil’s.  Hope you head over soon!

Moss Landing CA Excursion

If you head south on Highway one from Santa Cruz you’ll pass a town called Moss Landing. A lot of people probably drive right by.  At first glance, your eyes are drawn to the huge smoke stacks.  But don’t let that deter you – there are some beautiful views, a harbor and a few good places to visit. When you see the sign for Moss Landing you’ll also see The Whole Enchilada Market Place. They have a unique farmers market where you can find many exotic fruits and vegetables at very reasonable prices. You’ll also find a fabulous restaurant called Phil’s Fish Market.  I stumbled upon it on my last trip and would make a special coastal run just to eat there.  It’s packed (I mean packed) so try to get there early (directions below).  If you want to take off on your own and try this trip, I would highly recommend it.  Get a good “Books on CD” and hit the road.  You won’t regret it!  (I took this photo on a cold, foggy morning. I absolutely love photographing in the fog! It softens the world around you muting colors and shapes.) Continue reading “Moss Landing CA Excursion”
